Expect Low Visibility Tonight
The sunshiny spring-like weather of yesterday transformed into a cold, dreary Saturday thanks to a changing jet stream.

Last night, Eau Claire got another helping of snow. We recieved about 3 inches in some areas of the city. All day, the skies were overcast and the conditions were cold and misty. Light drizzle accompanied the cool temperatures and wind gusts by mid-day. In total, we received just over a tenth of an inch of rain accumulation. It was an unfortunate day for the Shamrock Shuffle to take place.

Winter's Back...
As the day and this winter storm comes to a close, we can reflect on the weather over the past day two days. Yesterday, snow flurries began early on and continued throughout the day with bitterly cold E/NE winds. The snow precipitation picked up overnight and dumped over six inches in Eau Claire, with some residents reporting 8 inches of accumulation. This slicked the roads and caused school cancellations across the Eau Claire area today. At the warmest point today, we reached 27 degrees F. At this time (12:25 pm), we were still experiencing moderate snow precipitation from overcast skies.

Tonight, our low is 12 degrees F with a 30% chance of snow showers and 75% humidity. It will feel like -6 degrees F with the wind chill. The wind pattern has now shifted from E/NE to W/NW, indicating that we are out of the woods for this winter storm. Currently, we are experiencing 11 mph wind gusts. The link below contains the current wind map for the United States. You can click to zoom in on our viewing area.

Although we have seen the brunt of this winter storm already in our area, the eastern United States is bracing itself for just as much accumulation and the posibility of some massive power outages. I feel that the coast will recieve less accumulating precipitation than forecasted, though.

Here Comes the Sun!
Welcome to the first day of meteorological spring!
As predicted, last night's thick cloud cover and cold wind gusts continued through the remainder of the evening. Although we are still experiencing nose-nipping winds at 7 mph with gusts up to 10 mph out of the north, the sun has finally decided to make more of an appearance today in the Chippewa Valley. The skies are currently mostly cloudy with stratocumulus clouds. This is a good indicator that the weather will remain precipitation-free today.
Our current relative humidity is only 55%. The dew point is sitting at 12 degrees F. The current barometric pressure reading for Eau Claire is 30.31 in Hg and steady.
With the sun's rays beating down today, it would be a great time to throw down some ice melt on your thickly iced parking lots and sidewalks to amp up the melting today. There is enough blue ice melt strewn across my parking lot right now that one might mistake it for a Smurf massacre site.
Temperatures will continue to climb to about 30 degrees F by early afternoon. Our current temperature in Eau Claire is 26 degrees F with a real feel of 17 degrees F with those blustery Canadian winds. Cloud cover will continue to decrease with these drier northern winds. The week will continue to improve, getting sunnier and warmer as the week progresses and a high pressure system moves into the area by the weekend. We won't have to worry about any winter weather storms blowing through the Chippewa Valley until Monday or Tuesday. To get you excited about spring weather, the average high temperature for the end of March is 50 degrees F, so get ready to lose a few layers!
